ANTARKTIKA

»ANTARKTIKA«
a climatic time-travel -
concert for string quartet, live electronics and video
by Frank Halbig
with the Helios String Quartet

Detailed statements about the history of climatic changes on earth can be made on the basis of deep ice cores from Antarctic; the data extracted by EPICA , the European Project for Ice Coring in Antarctica, cover 742 millennia of climatic history.

"Antarktika" tries to convert these climatic changes into a composition generated on the basis of EPICA ice-core data reflecting the climatic development of our planet. These data also generate the graphics shown together with a video projection composed of images and video footage material from the AWI archive (Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven).

The premier took place in the Kubus-Studio of the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics in Karlsruhe on Sunday, Dec. 10th, 2006.
